Improvement works planned at Kings Road car park in Henley
Improvement works at Kings Road car park in Henley will begin on Tuesday 2 June and are expected to last for approximately two weeks.
The work will take place near the entrance to Henley Library and will include repairs to the pathway, improvements to disabled parking bays and the replacement of benches.
During the works, there will be some temporary restrictions at the site: the two disabled parking bays by the library entrance will be closed off and unavailable for use, while access along the walkway to Ravenscroft Road and Adam Court may be limited at times, although it will remain open throughout the project and access to the library will be clear.
Contractors on the site will also be looking to enhance the walkway linking the car park to Ravenscroft Road which has tree roots growing through the tarmac, causing trip hazards for pedestrians. To improve safety, the existing tarmac will be removed, the tree roots carefully protected, and two new pathways installed with a central grassed area. As part of the upgrade, the old bench will also be replaced with two new benches.
The council will also be refurbishing the two disabled parking bays near the entrance to the library. These bays will be unavailable during the works. Contractors will remove the two small walls that currently surround the spaces, which can make access difficult, particularly for wheelchair users. Alternative disabled parking bays elsewhere in the car park will remain available during this time.
Cllr Sue Cooper, Cabinet Member for Environment at South Oxfordshire District Council, said: “These improvements to Kings Road car park will help make the area safer, more welcoming and easier for people to use, while still protecting the existing trees and improving the overall look of the car park. The changes will also make access to the library and town easier, particularly for people with mobility needs. We’d like to thank residents and visitors for their patience while the work takes place.”
